Major cleanliness drive conducted in Naharlagun
ITANAGAR, Apr 7: A major cleanliness drive was conducted today in the Naharlagun area by a group of young people in collaboration with Urban Development Department, Naharlagun Bazaar Welfare Committee and Environmental Protection Society (EPS), Tawang. A large number of ordinary citizens including students from various schools of capital complex, NERIST and RGU took part in the drive.
This noble idea of cleanliness drive was conceived by two young ladies, namely Ruma
Nguri, who is currently working as junior engineer with Power Grid at Shillong and
Kobyum Zirdo, who is working as media consultant at Bangalore. The duo got in touch
with other like-
“I have been living in Shillong for the last 3 years. I noticed that the people there have managed to keep their city quite neat and clean. This has inspired me to go for cleanliness programme in our capital complex,” said Ruma.
The cleanliness drive started at 7 am in the morning at Takar Complex area of Naharlagun. Despite incessant rain, the participants cleaned the garbage wearing musk and hand gloves. Vehicles of Urban Development department were used to carry garbage to the dumping ground. The team also distributed 72 tin dustbins which were made by the participants themselves. Urban Development Department contributed 29 plastic dustbins for various sectors of Naharlagun. The other participants included Galo Welfare Society President Jarjum Ete, Assistant Urban Programme Officers (UD) Kipa Ama and Yumlam Aam, Naharlagun Bazaar Welfare Committee Chairman Shillong Tajo.

RUKSIN, Apr 7: Tea which is widely considered a ‘money spinner’ has found its mooring in the hilly terrains and foothills of Arunachal Pradesh bordering Assam.
The land locked State, bereft of any small scale industry, have now set its eyes on rubber and tea based industry. Next to rubber plantation, tea plantation in hilly terrains and foothills of East Siang and West Siang has taken off signaling economic boon among the farmers.
The farmers, observing the existing feasibility of tea plantation, have set sights on small tea gardens and growth of tea based industry in East Siang district as the “Vinayak Tea Company Ltd, a Kolkata based tea company has come forward to promote tea plantation activities.

Industry’. The company aims to facilitate the local small tea growers by supplying

It may be recalled that the Rubber Board India (RBI) has achieved its first milestone in the area by developing more than five hundred hectares of rubber plantations. The intention of the RBI is vouched by the fact that its top ranking officials have visited the plantation sites of East Siang and other sites during the last three years. An average 40 tons of rubber latex worth Rs 1.20 crore is being produced from the region every year.
Commercial horticulturists of Siang Valley are now cherishing another hope of economic gain through tea cultivation. They farmers have demanded early start of proposed tea industry at Niglok IGC in order to facilitate the local small tea growers for commercialization of their tea products.

He was addressing a youth interaction programme initiated by Sango Lamte Foundation Chairman Payi Gyadi in collaboration with All East Kameng Students Union (AEKSU) at Nyokum Lapang Seppa to inspire the students and youths to do well in their chosen field.
Stressing on role of youths in building the state and guiding its developmental activities Beda said that there was a need for a revolution on work culture and determination among the youth. He further suggested AEKSU to steer the students to right direction. Highlighting various educational related issues, Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE) Kata Rangmo sought support from the union in streamlining education effectively in the district.
East Kameng Social and Cultural Welfare Organization Chairman Dr. Kaya Lapung also stressed on the role of students in bringing change in society.

ITANAGAR, Apr 7: After the destruction of structures including recently erected pandal for Malini Mela celebrations and a store room at Likabali by a team of Assam govt officers led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dhemaji along with an estimated 300 Police personnel, the West Siang district administration has written to the Dhemaji district administration regarding maintenance of status quo at Malinithan Mela Ground.
“Nobody will be allowed to construct any kind of construction in that particular area (Malinithan Mela ground) from Arunachal side. Further I would like to seek your cooperation so that peaceful coexistence from both sides can be ensured” read the letter which was sent on April 6.
However, the letter is unlikely to get any support from the people of the area as they are already angry at the halfhearted response of Arunachal government after repeated encroachment by Assam.
According to the locals, the Malinithan Mela ground is within the Arunachal territory and since late 60’s, the mela has been celebrated every year at the same location. According to official documents, the area was declared as protected area vide notice RES (H) 124/75 dated 12th October, 1981 by govt of Arunachal.
On March 24, Assam officials had raised objection to the construction of pandal at Malini Mela area by the people of Likabali leading to exchange of series of letters between the West Siang deputy commissioner and his Dhemaji counterpart. However, the annual celebration went off peaceful.
On the other hand, the Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji, when contacted by this daily said that site of the pandal is within the territory of Assam and Mela committee from Arunachal should have taken the permission before the construction started.
When questioned about the timing chosen by the Assam team to destroy the structures, the angry officer retorted that it was the prerogative of his administration to decide when to carry out any activity within the “territory” of Assam. He further said that demolition was carried out at 4 AM and not 2.30 AM as reported by this daily.
Even after such daring attack by Assam govt officials, not a single officer or politician from Itanagar has visited Likabali so far. Allegedly even the local MLA is yet to visit Likabali, instead choosing to celebrate Mopin at a nearby town.
Parliamentary Secretary Home Gadam Ete, when questioned why there have been no visit so far to the affected area, instead responded that state govt will give a representation to the Assam government on the issue soon.
He claims that situation has been normalized because of initiation by his department.
However, this claim of Ete has been disputed by the local people. Just a handful of police have been posted at the site of destruction, says a govt officer while informing that even after three days, additional forces are yet to reach Likabali township.
There has been no statement of assurance from the Chief Minister’s office on the whole issue either even though he is the Minister in charge of Home Affairs.
Locals claim that due to the insincerity and lackadaisical attitude of the respective state governments, Assam has made massive inroad in Likabali and nearby areas.
“Whatever claims they make, the fact remains that all plain land in Likabali have been encroached by Assam and people of the area are forced to pay land tax to Assam govt. If it was not for the local people, by now the entire township would have been captured by Assam, said a citizen while sharing that govt of Arunachal has been just a mute spectator even though half of the town has been annexed by Assam.
Ironically, SDO Likabali till recently was not empowered to give Land Possession Certificates rendering the people powerless to deal with access by their neighbours.
Meanwhile the DC, West Siang has reacted strongly to the reports in some sections of the media in Assam that he tendered an apology to Assam “for constructing a building on Assamese territory”.

ABK, GWS team visit Likabali, orgs seek govt intervention
ITANAGAR, Apr 7: A team comprising of member from Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) and Galo Welfare Society (GWS) has visited Malini Mela ground, Likabali which was ransacked and structures demolished by the Assam Police led ADC Dhemaji.
The visiting team led by president of Adi Baane Kebang Kangir Jamoh vehemently condemned the vandalism by the neighbouring state and assured to raise the issue at government level.
When the entire Galo community and the state is observing the Mopin Festival, vandalism by the neighboring state on the eve of the festival is unfortunate, said a report of the visiting delegation.
Meanwhile, the people of Likabali are still in grief and shock and awaiting the visit of State Govt. representatives to take stock of situation and verification of the damaged site wherein one Multipurpose pandal, one Storage building was totally demolished and more than 1500 CGI sheet, about 50 plastic chairs, GI Pipes and other materials of the Mela committee were looted by the Dhemaji administration, the report further said.

The Society demanded that the Assam officials involved in the demolition of structure of Malini Temple be booked and arrested immediately under National Security Act for creating communal tension among the people of both sides of the states while demanding the return of the property “looted” by Assam officials without any condition.
All West Siang Border Student Union has also strongly condemned the destruction. Terming it a complete violation of the Supreme Courts standing order for maintenance of status quo along the boundary, the Union requested the Govt. of Assam to immediately renovate the destroyed properties as it threatened to stop the devotees coming from Assam to visit Malinithan. It further urged the people of Assam to stop road blocked against the Arunachal vehicles at Dhemaji Town.
ICCR cultural prog to promote folk dances
ITANAGAR, Apr 7: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with state Director Art and Culture and Nrityangana Dance & Music Academy, Itanagar organized a cultural evening to promote both folk and classical dances at Vivekananda Hall here today.
Folk dance performed by the artistes from Art & Culture department, Oju Welfare Mission and Ganga village and classical dance presented by children of Nrityangana enthralled the audience during the cultural evening.
Addressing the inaugural session, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women chairperson Gumri Ringu said efforts of the ICCR in fostering and strengthening cultural relations would go a long way in promoting better understanding, world peace and unity.
ICCR regional director Radharaman Chatterjee from Guwahati, said that the Council would be organizing ‘Horizon’ series in Arunachal Pradesh once in three months. ITANAGAR, Apr 7: Arunachal Pradesh Governor General (Retd) J.J. Singh was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor in Literature (D.Litt) by Shri Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University (JJT), Jhunjhunu in a special convocation of the University at Mumbai yesterday. JJT University, an autonomous University established under the Act of Government of Rajasthan, is managed by NGO, Shri Rajasthani Seva Sangh.

CRPF, ITBP observe World Health Day
ITANAGAR, Apr 7: Fifteen Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel donated blood voluntarily in a blood donation camp organized by 138 Battalion of CRPF based at Sinkiview off Itanagar in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission Hospital today.
The programme, which is a regular exercise of the paramilitary force, was organized to mark the World Health Day today and as part of the CRPF’s Valour Day celebration on April 9.

YINGKIONG, April 7: The two months long tussle between owner of M/s Libang Auto Agency, Yingkiong Petrol pump and Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) executive body has been resolved in a Kebang held at Yingkiong recently.
Along with Adi Baane Kebang representatives, HGBs of Simong, Gette, Gossang and Pugging villages, and representatives of AdiSU participated in the discussion and unanimously abided by the Kebang decision.
In the Kebang, AdiSU President and Secretary Sokun Sibo and Obuk Gao, admitted and accepted moral responsibility of damaging the M/s Libang Auto Agency Petrol pump, Yingkiong on February 21 and both tendered public apology to the owner Alo Libang and the public of Upper Siang district.
Meanwhile, Libang accepted the apology tendered by Sibo and Gao and further did not seek compensation against the damages incurred amounting to Rs. 5 lakhs approximately as per IOC verification.

In a memorandum submitted to the CM, the Committee said that creation of a separate circle headquarters will bring a ray of hope for the people of Upper Sangram belt and accelerate development activities.
Meanwhile, the Committee claimed that the Chief Minister assured to consider the demand for a new circle as early as possible.
AMYAA promotes sustainable income generation
ITANAGAR, Apr 7: Ambeya Yaku Awrue of Mayu – I and Miya Jambo of Mayu II of Roing, through Fish and Pork Pickle Making have managed to make a quite a profit. These SHGs are formed and promoted by Alombro Mayu Yaku Chi Amey Aroga (AMYAA) NGO of Miao. The SHGs sell their locally made pickles through door to door marketing. By and large the pickle products have attracted good number of customers.
The AMYAA would further train the SHGs in improving the quality of the pickle products and package it well for good marketing returns.
